*NBA Best Bet Loser(-1.65u): Hornets +8 vs Clippers
--After trailing by 8 through 1 quarter, the Hornets turned on the jets in the 2Q, outsourcing the Clippers by 11 and holding a 3 point lead heading into the break. Obviously, I felt really great about my chances at this point in the game. Unfortunately, the Hornets scored just 43 points in the 2nd Half and broke down defensively, eventually losing by 23. Charlotte’s been depleted with injuries all season, and it’s possible those are starting to catch up with this young roster. I like this team’s potential, but when you shoot 39% from the floor against a good Clippers squad, you’re just not going to get the job done. Considering the Hornets still haven’t locked up the ever-important 8 seed in the East, I was expecting a much better effort start-to-finish from this squad. Terry Rozier is one of the only pure scorers the Hornets have healthy right now; with him shooting just 3-13 from the floor tonight, the Hornets looked completely lost offensively for much of this game. Considering the rest of the play-in tournament will be made up by the Celtics, Pacers, and Wizards, I’m starting to believe the Hornets are going to struggle keeping up with each of those teams offensively. When you bet against a team like the Clippers, you run the risk of them showing they are simply more talented than the opponent. Tough loss, but I really did think this was a good spot for Charlotte.
*NBA Winner(+1u): Bulls -10.5 vs Raptors
--The Raptors are a complete and utter joke to the NBA and professional sports as a whole. They waived the white flag on this season when they were still in contention for the playoffs back in March, and I have enjoyed every opportunity I have to bet against them. It appears as if Chicago is going to come up just short of the play-in tournament, but this Bulls team plays with a lot of effort. With Zach LaVine back in rhythm coming off his absence, this was a no-brainer play on the Bulls for me. Stanley Johnson did have a 35 point night for Toronto(where did that come from?) which kept this game closer than I would’ve liked, but when it came down to it the Bulls got the job done. Not the best night at the office, but certainly not the worst. I live to fight another day.
