May 10th Recap
May 10th Record: 1-2, -1.4u
May Overall Record: 12-10, +2.55u
*MLB Winner(+1.1u): Reds -1.5(+110) @ Pirates
--After nearly a week off from betting the MLB, it felt good to get this easy of a winner in my first bet back. The Reds touched up Mitch Keller for 7 runs in 3.1 innings of work and recorded 15 hits on the night en route to a 14-1 win. I knew that the Pirates were going to have a hard time at the plate with key lefty bats Colin Moran and Gregory Polanco out tonight, and Tyler Mahle settled in to throw a nice ballgame. This Reds team is so easy to bet on because, from top to bottom, they just flat out rake. Getting plus money in a matchup where they were clearly the better team, this was a no-brainer play for me. We are starting to see the Pirates come down to Earth a bit after a respectable start to the season.
*NBA Loser(-1.1u): Pelicans 1H +5 @ Grizzlies
--This was a frustrating situation where the Pelicans failed to cover the 1H spread but ultimately did cover the full game spread. I was surprised to see the Pelicans fight back in the second half considering they were very short-handed and on the second half of a back-to-back. Not to mention, Memphis is a much better second half team and often start games off slow. Either way, you have to respect New Orleans for fighting back without their top 2 players. Unfortunately for them, it looks like their playoff dreams are dead with the Spurs winning tonight to gain a 2.5 game lead for the 10 spot in the West. While Memphis still found a way to win and is very good ATS, laying 9 is not their role. Much like the Knicks, I can only trust the Grizzlies as short favorites or underdogs. I’ve never been a fan of playing 1st half underdogs, and after this tough break, you probably won’t see too many of those from me in the future.
*MLB Best Bet Loser(-1.4u): Giants F5 TT OVER 1.5(-140) vs Rangers
--In my mind, Kyle Gibson has to budge at some point. For a guy that fostered a 5.35 ERA and 1.53 WHIP last year, it’s crazy to see this guy deliver quality start after quality start. The Giants entered tonight’s game 3rd in MLB in HR’s and had plenty of lefty bats to combat the righty Gibson. While Brandon Belt hit an opposite field blast in the 4th to give me hope entering the 5th inning, it was all for not. The Giants got 2 runners on in the 5th with nobody out before the 8 hole grounded into a double play and Alex Wood struck out miserably. While the Giants have solid offensive numbers, they can’t seem to deliver for me consistently when I back them. As for Gibson, I’m just going to have to tip my hat to this guy and move on. I was very profitable in fading him last season, but it appears he made the necessary adjustments over the offseason. Frustrating way to end the night, but when you consider the miracle cover we got on my 1.5u Best Bet with the Nets the other night, it sort of evens out. Looking to bounce back tomorrow.
